Online Elementary Education Degree Choices
Think about all of the careers in our society and what it takes for an individual to get there. Business executives, nurses, paramedics, etc. all have one thing in common; they all received an education prior to their college degree. Without teachers imparting knowledge on the youth of America, jobs and careers would be severely lacking. Many accredited online colleges and universities offer degree programs in K-12 education.
Teaching at its most basic definition is the way our society imparts accumulated knowledge and skills to another generation. General education is taught through reading, mathematics, science, history, writing, and social studies. These main areas of schooling are the focal point of college education for students who want to become teachers. Prospective students will learn how to teach these subjects at their desired grade level. The majority of colleges and universities will state a program as primary or secondary along with the grade levels like K-6 or K-12.
Students should decide prior to enrollment what subject and grades they want to teach. This decision will help a student chose the correct online degree program to enroll. The common qualification for K-12 teaching is having a bachelor’s degree and completing a student teaching program. Students need to take into consideration that every state has different licensing requirements. Students may have to complete an exam or take a few extra classes to be eligible to teach in another state. Master’s degree programs and PhD programs are also available for teachers to further their education. Continuing Education will increase salary because teachers get paid based on the amount of schooling they have obtained.
A bachelor’s degree in elementary teacher education will properly prepare students with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to become successful educators. Elementary education is an all-encompassing course load, so for grade levels kindergarten through fifth grade teachers will learn how to teach all core subjects. Courses will include online training in child development, classroom management, and models of theory instruction. Elementary methods will be learned in all subjects, which include science, math, and social studies. In an elementary method math course students will study the content and strategies in teaching math at the elementary level. A bachelor’s degree in this area will prepare students for teaching, licensure, and the professional workplace.
Some students continue education and gain a master of arts in teaching. This graduate degree will enable students to add to their knowledge by teaching them current techniques, technology, theory, and more. Students will significantly increase their knowledge in their specialized subject and be able to directly apply gained skills to their classroom. This degree and other graduate degree programs allow teachers to earn higher salaries and step into positions like curriculum developers, program directors, and more. Online teaching options provide numerous advantages to a prospective student or to the working professional.
Don’t let you goal of becoming a teacher pass you by. Search out online elementary education colleges that offer degree distinctions that fit your schedule and career goals. Enter a rewarding career today by enrolling in an elementary education degree program.

Physical Education and Activity for Elementary Classroom Teachers $70 Physical Education and Activity for Elementary Classroom Teachers is written for classroom teachers who have limited background in physical education and physical activity but want to give their students a quality education. Classroom teachers will be prepared to successfully and effectively engage students in physical education and physical activity at a basic level and in a safely constructed environment—in the gymnasium, on the playground, and in the classroom. Since many colleges and universities divide a physical education methods course for classroom teachers into separate lecture and laboratory sections, this text is divided into two primary sections. The first section is written to address topics that are covered during lectures in a university classroom. The second is written to address activities covered during laboratory experiences in a gymnasium. Each section contains relatively brief chapters that cover the most important points of the chapter’s focus in easy-to-read text with numerous photos and interactive activities. The book encourages classroom teachers to develop an appreciation for the subject matter of physical education and engage children in maximum levels of activity throughout the school day. Overall, the book is designed to be a primary reference for future classroom teachers and a valuable resource for certified classroom teachers. |

What Is And What Might Be A Study Of Education In General And Elementary Education In Particular $2.29 pubOne.info present you this new edition. My aim, in writing this book, is to show that the externalism of the West, the prevalent tendency to pay undue regard to outward and visible "results" and to neglect what is inward and vital, is the source of most of the defects that vitiate Education in this country, and therefore that the only remedy for those defects is the drastic one of changing our standard of reality and our conception of the meaning and value of life. My reason for making a special study of that branch of education which is known as "Elementary, " is that I happen to have a more intimate knowledge of it than of any other branch, the inside of an elementary school being so familiar to me that I can in some degree bring the eye of experience to bear upon the problems that confront its teachers. I do not for a moment imagine that the elementary school teacher is more deeply tainted than his fellows with the virus of "Occidentalism. " Nor do I think that the defects of his schools are graver than those of other educational institutions. In my judgment they are less grave because, though perhaps more glaring, they have not had time to become so deeply rooted, and are therefore, one may surmise, less difficult to eradicate |

Elementary Science Methods: A Constructivist Approach, 4th Edition $66.49 In this pioneering text, Martin uses a constructivist approach to guide students in learning how to teach in a constructivist manner. Grounded in the belief that it is more important for children to learn how to do science than it is for them to learn about science, this text is predicated on the reality that teachers of elementary science do not need to know a great deal of science to be good science teachers, but need to be co-inquirers with their students. To facilitate your students’ learning, this text features a wealth of exercises: for teacher candidates, the book includes open-ended inquiry activities that help them to construct their own personal conceptualizations about science content and teaching science in the elementary school; and, it contains over 170 process-oriented, open-ended activities that teachers can use to encourage children to develop and perform their own investigations. The Book Companion CD-ROM, included with each new copy, provides tools and resources, such as additional activities and video, which students can use both in their college course and later in elementary science classrooms. All activities are linked to National Science Education Standards for content, professional development, assessment, and teaching, and the activities contain suggestions of appropriate children’s literature. |

Knowing and Teaching Elementary Mathematics: Teachers’ Understanding of Fundamental Mathematics in China and the United States $17.19 Chinese students typically outperform U.S. students on international comparisons of mathematics competency. Paradoxically, Chinese teachers receive far less education than U.S. teachers–11 to 12 years of schooling versus 16 to 18 years of schooling. Studies of U.S. teacher knowledge often document insufficient subject matter knowledge in mathematics. But, they give few examples of the knowledge teachers need to support teaching, particularly the kind of teaching demanded by recent reforms in mathematics education. This book describes the nature and development of the "profound understanding of fundamental mathematics" that elementary teachers need to become accomplished mathematics teachers, and suggests why such teaching knowledge is much more common in China than the United States, despite the fact that Chinese teachers have less formal education than their U.S. counterparts. The studies described in this book suggest that Chinese teachers begin their teaching careers with a better understanding of elementary mathematics than that of most U.S. elementary teachers. Their understanding of the mathematics they teach and–equally important–of the ways that elementary mathematics can be presented to students, continues to grow throughout their professional lives. Teaching conditions in the United States, unlike those in China, militate against the development of elementary teachers’ mathematical knowledge and its organization for teaching. The concluding chapter of the book suggests changes in teacher preparation, teacher support, and mathematics education research that might allow teachers in the United States to attain profound understanding of fundamental mathematics. |

Teacher Inquiries in Literacy Teaching-Learning: Learning To Collaborate in Elementary Urban Classrooms $25.49 This book consists of the reports of 13 urban elementary teacher researchers’ year-long inquiries around literacy topics–conducted as part of a collaborative school-university action research project. The focus is on how they attempted to transform their teaching practices to meet the needs of students from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds, and how their inquiry efforts resulted in developing more collaborative styles of teaching. These teachers explore how collaborative classroom interactions occur when teachers move away from teaching-as-transmission approaches to ones in which they share power and authority with their students–viewing them not as ‘at risk’ but instead as ‘at promise.’ Because the everyday interactions between teachers and students are realized by social talk in the classroom, classroom discourse was analyzed to study and document the teacher researchers’ efforts to make changes in the locus of power in literacy teaching and learning. Their chapters are filled with classroom discourse examples to illustrate their points. The volume includes teacher inquiries conducted in elementary classrooms from kindergarten through eighth grade. Three took place in bilingual classrooms, one in a special education class. These inquires cover a range of literacy topics, including reading-aloud, language richness, writing, literature discussion groups, drama, and ‘pretend’ reading. The background and theoretical underpinnings of the project are discussed in an introduction written by the editors; in the conclusion they pull together the major themes in the teacher researchers’ chapters and discuss the political implications of their efforts to change literacy teaching and learning in their urban classrooms. |

”Cradles of culture, gardens of civilization”: Elementary schooling in Germany, 1900–1914. $49.99 This dissertation examines the elementary schools of late Imperial Germany as agents of socialization and “civilization” and arbiters of morals and manners, health and hygiene, that changed relations between the family, the community, and the state. Using the official regulations surrounding the schools, scholars have embedded the elementary school (Volksschule) in a master narrative of German history. This so-called Sonderweg neglects the lived experiences of the schools with all their attendant diversity, complexity, and conflict. Beginning inside the elementary school itself, this study argues that the impact of education was open ended and multifaceted. The state remained present and powerful at the Volksschule but schooling was also a social phenomenon, enmeshed in a web of shifting cultural and communal relations. Not only did government ministers determine educational policies and practices, so too did a variety of social groups as well as the Protestant and Catholic churches. There is no better indication of the diversity of German schools than the absence of a national education ministry before 1934.;This study takes an ethnographic approach to its subject, showing how the school’s rituals and rules, hierarchy of age and grade, splintering of information into separate subjects, and division of boys and girls, Protestants and Catholics, shaped the pupil’s ways of seeing and knowing. Focusing on Prussia and Saxony, it uses textbooks, lesson plans, the pedagogical press, didactic literature, memoirs, and school journals (Schukhroniken) to illustrate the ways in which the Volksschule and its teachers mediated ideas about the family, community, and the nation. Moral messages on cleanliness, thrift, punctuality, obedience, and order accompanied portraits of the Kaisers and patriotic texts. Pupils took field trips to local landmarks and celebrated the invented traditions of Sedan Day and the birthday of Wilhelm II. More than policies and prescriptions, the |

”There is always a path to success for every student:” Educator thinking patterns and inclusion at Parkview Primary Center*. $49.99 Since the passage of the landmark Education for All Handicapped Children Act (PL 94-142) in 1975, and its subsequent reauthorizations as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), increasing numbers of students with disabilities have been educated in regular K-12 classrooms every year. The move toward greater inclusion, however, has involved considerable controversy throughout its history. For decades, educators, policy makers, researchers, and advocates have debated what constitutes the least restrictive environment and appropriate degree of inclusion. Complicating the issue is the fact that many teachers, particularly general educators, have had serious misgivings about teaching students with disabilities in regular classes. These stem from a lack of adequate preparation and training for inclusion, and of administrative and collegial support, leading to the formation of negative beliefs about inclusion of these students.;Prior studies have identified characteristics of successfully inclusive schools, such as strong leadership and support from principals and special educators, a welcoming attitude toward students with disabilities on the part of general educators, and a flexible approach to student placement and teaching methods. Also, previous studies consistently show that educators who have strong critically reflective thinking skills, high-level epistemological beliefs (i.e., beliefs about knowledge and learning), and a high comfort level with inclusion are likeliest to create an inclusive school environment.;The present study’s purpose was to determine the degree to which teachers, paraeducators, and the principal at a diverse elementary school exhibit the essential cognitive variables for inclusion listed above, and the degree to which the staff display the characteristics identified as hallmarks of inclusive schools. Nine teachers, two paraeducators, and the principal completed surveys and interviews measuring their comfort level with |

21st Century Literacy: If We Are Scripted, Are We Literate? $139 This book offers a call to all who are involved with literacy education. It explores the prescriptions that hinder authentic and effective approaches to literacy instruction. The scripts identified here include the Bureaucratic Script, the Corporate Script, the Student Script, the Parent and Public Script, and the Administrative Script. The authors bring their classroom teaching experiences (over thirty years combined) along with their research base to a discussion of literacy spanning elementary through high school. The discussion offers the reader practical and research-based lenses for identifying and overcoming the barriers to best practice while avoiding the inherent pitfalls found too often in our schools. The implied answer to the subtitle is a definitive “No,” but the text goes beyond criticizing the current state of the field and seeks to empower both teachers and students seeking literacy growth beyond the scripts that plague twenty-first century commitments to accountability and testing. |
