Computer Science
What is the degree most comparable to a Computer Science degree?

Right now my intended major is Computer Science. I know there is alot of math to obtain this major. I want a back up plan just in case I cannot handle all the math. Does anyone know what the most comparable degree to Computer Science is, without so much math? Do all the higher paying computer jobs require a Computer Science degree?

Thanks!

Having a computer science degree doesn’t guarantee a high paying job, this profession is highly competitive, you’ll have to think on your feet and constantly keep updating yourself to the lastest programs and software. It’s best to find something that you like to do instead of just looking at the potential salaries.

The database industry is a multi-billion, world-wide, all-encompassing part of the software world. Quantifiers in Action: Generalized Quantification in Query, Logical and Natural Languages introduces a query language called GQs—Generalized Quantification in Query. Most query languages are simply versions of First Order Logic (FOL). GQs are an extension of the idea of quantifier in FOL. GQs are a perfect example of a practical theory within databases. This book provides a brief background in logic and introduces the concept of GQs, and then develops a query language based on GQs. Using Query Language with Generalized Quantifiers, the reader explores the efficient implementation of the concept, always a primary consideration in databases. This professional book also includes several extensions for use with documents employing question and answer techniques.Designed for practitioners and researchers within the database management field; also suitable for advanced-level students in computer science.

10th International Conference on Automated Deduction: Kaiserslautern, FRG, July 24-27, 1990. Proceedings

$129

This volume contains the papers presented at the 10th International Conference on Automated Deduction (CADE-10). CADE is the major forum at which research on all aspects of automated deduction is presented. Although automated deduction research is also presented at more general artificial intelligence conferences, the CADE conferences have no peer in the concentration and quality of their contributions to this topic. The papers included range from theory to implementation and experimentation, from propositional to higher-order calculi and nonclassical logics; they refine and use a wealth of methods including resolution, paramodulation, rewriting, completion, unification and induction; and they work with a variety of applications including program verification, logic programming, deductive databases, and theorem proving in many domains. The volume also contains abstracts of 20 implementations of automated deduction systems. The authors of about half the papers are from the United States, many are from Western Europe, and many too are from the rest of the world. The proceedings of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th CADE conferences are published as Volumes 87, 138, 170, 230, 310 in the series Lecture Notes in Computer Science.

The button on the side releases the dampened, spring-loaded bit chamber, which conveniently holds 10 of the 11 bits (the 11th bit is stored in the driver head). A plastic cap fits over the driver head, keeping the socket head and bit clean and dust free. This nifty little tool should be the centerpiece in the toolkit of every home hobbyist and computer technician!

Not illustrated. Excerpt: Dune is a science fiction novel written by Frank Herbert, published in 1965. It won the Hugo Award in 1966, and also the inaugural Nebula Award for Best Novel. Dune is frequently cited as the world’s best-selling science fiction novel. Set in the far future amidst a sprawling feudal interstellar empire where planetary fiefdoms are controlled by noble houses that owe an allegiance to the Imperial House Corrino, Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides (the heir apparent to Duke Leto Atreides and the scion of House Atreides) as he and his family accept control of the desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the “spice” melange, the most important and valuable substance in the universe. The story explores the complex and multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the forces of the Empire confront each other for control of Arrakis and its “spice”. Herbert wrote five sequels to the novel Dune: Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune. The first novel also inspired a 1984 film adaptation by David Lynch, a 2000 Sci Fi Channel miniseries and its 2003 sequel, computer games, a board game, a song, and a series of prequels, interquels, and sequels that were co-written by Kevin J. Anderson and the author’s son, Brian Herbert, starting in 1999. Florence, Oregon, with sand dunes that served as an inspiration for the Dune sagaAfter his novel The Dragon in the Sea was published in 1957, Herbert took an airplane to Florence, Oregon, at the north edge of the Oregon Dunes where the United States Department of Agriculture was experimenting using poverty grasses to stabilize the damaging sand dunes, that could “swallow whole

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Jigsaw Puzzle: 500 Pcs

$14.95

Based on the Jules Verne classic of the same name this puzzle depicts the Nautilus submarine and two underwater explorers. Jules Verne’s novel was published in 1870 and is famed for its extraordinary and accurate prediction of the submarine. In addition, the imaginative descriptions of the world under the seas created a genuine sense of awe and excitement unsurpassed in its time. Rodney Matthews, the world famous fantasy artist, has brought Verne’s undersea world to life. Matthews has worked as a freelance illustrator of fantasy and science since 1970. In the ’70’s he painted record album covers for rock groups as well as many book covers. More than eighty of his illustrations have been published for posters and calendars. More recently, Matthews has been in demand by computer game developers and children’s television shows. The puzzle is packed in a box that looks like a book and its 500 pieces create a circular image 20 in diameter.

25 Years of Model Checking: History, Achievements, Perspectives

25 Years of Model Checking: History, Achievements, Perspectives

$39.95

Model checking technology is among the foremost applications of logic to computer science and computer engineering. The model checking community has achieved many breakthroughs, bridging the gap between theoretical computer science and hardware and software engineering, and it is reaching out to new challenging areas such as system biology and hybrid systems. Model checking is extensively used in the hardware industry and has also been applied to the verification of many types of software. Model checking has been introduced into computer science and electrical engineering curricula at universities worldwide and has become a universal tool for the analysis of systems. This Festschrift volume, published in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Model Checking, includes a collection of 11 invited papers based on talks at the symposium “25 Years of Model Checking”, 25MC, which was part of the 18th International Conference on Computer Aided Verification (CAV 2006), which in turn was part of the Federated Logic Conference (FLoC 2006) held in Seattle, WA, USA, in August 2006.Model checking is currently attracting considerable attention beyond the core technical community, and the ACM Turing Award 2007 was given in recognition of the paradigm-shifting work on this topic initiated a quarter century ago. Here we honor that achievement with the inclusion of facsimile reprints of the visionary papers on model checking by Edmund Clarke and Allen Emerson, and by Jean-Pierre Queille and Joseph Sifakis.

The word may stand for the branch of computer science that comprises such techniques, or for the models themselves.Raster graphic sprites (left) and masks (right)2D computer graphics are mainly used in applications that were originally developed upon traditional printing and drawing technologies, such as typography , cartography , technical drawing , advertising , etc.. In those applications, the two-dimensional image is not just a representation of a real-world object, but an independent artifact with added semantic value; two-dimensional models are therefore preferred, because they give more direct control of the image than 3D computer graphics (whose approach is more akin to photography than to typography ).In many domains, such as desktop publishing , engineering , and business , a description of a document based on 2D computer graphics techniques can be much smaller than the corresponding digital image often by a factor of 1/1000 or more. This representation is also more flexible since it can be rendered at different resolutions to suit different output devices . For these reasons, documents and illustrations are often stored or transmitted as 2D graphic files.2D computer graphics started in the 1950s, based on vector graphics devices . These were largely supplanted by

3-D Shape Estimation and Image Restoration: Exploiting Defocus and Motion-Blur

3-D Shape Estimation and Image Restoration: Exploiting Defocus and Motion-Blur

$69.95

Images contain information about the spatial properties of the scene they depict. When coupled with suitable assumptions, images can be used to infer three-dimensional information. This useful volume concentrates on motion blur and defocus, which can be exploited to infer the 3-D structure of a scene—as well as its radiance properties—and which in turn can be used to generate novel images with better quality.3-D Shape Estimation and Image Restoration presents a coherent framework for the analysis and design of algorithms to estimate 3-D shape from defocused and motion blurred images, and to eliminate defocus and motion blur to yield “restored” images. It provides a collection of algorithms that are optimal with respect to the chosen model and estimation criterion.Topics and Features include:• Comprehensive introduction to guide readers through the different areas of the topic• Basic models of image formation• Discussion of least-squares shape from defocus• Unifying defocus and motion blur• Handling multiple moving objects• Dealing with occlusions• Appendices supply the necessary background in optimization and regularization• www.eps.hw.ac.uk/~pf21/FavaroSoattoBook/downloads contains implementations of relevant algorithms, test data and demos.Written for readers with interests in image processing and computer vision and with backgrounds in engineering, science or mathematics, this highly practical text/reference is accessible to advanced students or those with a degree that includes basic linear algebra and calculus courses. It can also be seen as a resource for practitioners looking to expand their knowledge in the subject.
